Black Friday Facebook ads are the paid ads a store runs on Facebook and Instagram for the sale weekend. In 2026, Black Friday is 27 November and Cyber Monday is 30 November. Meta reviews most ads within 24 hours, and an ad set needs about 50 results in a week to leave the learning phase. So the ads have to be made, approved and running before the sale starts.
Most stores plan the offer and leave the ads for the last week. Then the ads go into review on the Wednesday, the ad sets are still learning on the Friday, and every change on the Saturday starts the learning again. The offer was good. The ads were late.
This guide covers which ads to make, how many files that is, the sizes Meta asks for, and the dates to work back from. It is written for brands with 20 to 500 products, and for the agencies and performance marketers who run a Black Friday campaign for them.
Key Takeaways
- The dates are fixed. Thanksgiving is 26 November 2026, Black Friday is 27 November and Cyber Monday is 30 November.
- Review takes a day. Meta says most ads are reviewed within 24 hours, and some take longer. An edit to a running ad starts a new review.
- Learning takes about a week. Meta says an ad set usually leaves the learning phase after about 50 results in the week after its last significant edit.
- Different ads, not small changes. Meta separates creative diversification from creative iteration. Two ads with the same picture and a different button are one idea.
- Two sizes cover most placements. Meta recommends 4:5 for a Feed image and 9:16 for Reels, with the top 14% and the bottom 35% of a Reels ad kept clear.
- Count the files first. In the worked example, 4 concepts in 3 sale phases and 2 sizes make 24 files for one market. That is illustrative arithmetic.
- Discounts start early. Adobe expects discounts of up to 14% in early November, 21% before Thanksgiving and 30% in Cyber Week.
What are Black Friday Facebook ads?
Black Friday Facebook ads are paid ads on Facebook and Instagram that carry a store’s Black Friday offer. They run through Meta Ads Manager and appear in Feed, Stories and Reels. A campaign usually has three parts: ads before the sale, ads during the sale weekend, and ads for Cyber Monday. Each part needs its own approved creative.
The weekend is large. Adobe expects US shoppers to spend 12.9 billion dollars online on Black Friday 2026, up 9.2% on last year, and 15.1 billion dollars on Cyber Monday. It expects Cyber Week, the five days from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday, to reach 47.5 billion dollars (Adobe, 2026 holiday forecast, accessed October 2026). These are forecasts, published on 28 September 2026.
Two more lines in that forecast matter for ads. Adobe expects a record 63% of online spend on Thanksgiving to come through a mobile device. It also expects social media’s share of revenue to rise 17% this season. So the first view of your offer is often a vertical ad on a phone.
This guide is about the ads. The product images that sit on your listings follow other rules, and they are in our guide to Black Friday product photography. The tasks for the whole store, from prices to sale week, are in the Black Friday checklist. The seasonal scenes for the weeks after the sale are in holiday product photography.
When should Black Friday Facebook ads start?
Start the first ads in early November, and submit the sale ads by 20 November. Meta’s review takes about a day, and an ad set needs about a week of results to leave the learning phase. Shoppers also start before the Friday. Adobe expects discounts of up to 14% in early November and up to 21% just before Thanksgiving.
Three timings set the calendar.
Review. Meta says: “Most ads are reviewed within 24 hours, although in some cases it may take longer.” An edit to a running ad starts a new review. A change to the bid, the budget or the schedule does not (Meta Business Help Center, about ads in review, accessed October 2026). Meta’s own advice is to set the start date “at least a few days in the future” (Meta for Business, Ads Manager tips, accessed October 2026).
Learning. Meta says an ad set usually leaves the learning phase “after about 50 results in the week after the ad set’s last significant edit”. During learning, ad sets “are less stable and usually have a higher CPA”. Learning begins again when you create a new ad or ad set, or make a significant edit. Meta also says frequent budget changes can send an ad set back into learning (Meta Business Help Center, about the learning phase, accessed October 2026).
Discounts. Adobe expects the deepest discounts, up to 30% off the listed price, in Cyber Week. It expects the best deals for apparel, furniture, toys and appliances on Black Friday, and for electronics and computers on Cyber Monday (Adobe, same forecast).
A new ad made on Black Friday morning is in review and then in learning for the days that matter most. The work has to be finished earlier.
| Date | What happens | Why |
|---|---|---|
| By 16 October | Choose the offer and the hero products | Every ad depends on these two decisions |
| 19 to 30 October | Make the concepts and the sizes | Leaves time to fix what review rejects |
| 2 to 13 November | Run the concepts with the early offer | The ad sets collect results and leave learning |
| By 20 November | Submit and schedule the sale ads | A week before the Friday, with time for a second review |
| 26 to 30 November | Sale ads run. Change budgets with care | Edits to an ad start a new review |
| 1 December | Turn off the sale ads | The price in the ad must match the price in the store |
The dates are a suggestion. The two timings behind them are Meta’s.
Which ads should you make for Black Friday?
Make four to six ads that are different ideas, each in the sizes your placements need. Meta calls this creative diversification. It says diverse creative gives its system more options to explore, and it separates this from creative iteration, where two ads share the same visual and change only the text (Meta for Business, creative diversification, accessed October 2026).
These six ideas are different from each other. Use them as a starting list of Black Friday ad ideas, and keep the ones that fit your products.
- The offer on the product. One hero product, the discount and the end date. This is the plain sale ad, and it should exist in every campaign.
- The product in use. A short vertical video or a lifestyle image. The offer appears in the text, and the picture shows why someone wants the product.
- The bundle or the gift. Two or three products in one frame with one price. Useful when the weekend buyer is shopping for someone else.
- The range. A carousel of the products in the sale. Each card is one product with its sale price.
- The customer voice. A creator-style clip or a review quote. Use only real customers and real quotes.
- The last day. A Cyber Monday version that says the sale ends tonight. Make it and submit it before the weekend.
A new color on the same layout is the same ad to the people who see it. Our guide to ad fatigue covers how Meta flags creative that is too similar. For the choice between image and video, see static ads vs video.

What sizes do Black Friday Facebook ads need?
Two sizes cover most placements: 4:5 for Feed and 9:16 for Stories and Reels. Meta’s ads guide recommends a 4:5 image at 1440 by 1800 pixels for Facebook Feed. For Instagram Reels it recommends 9:16 video at 1440 by 2560 pixels.
| Placement | Ratio | Recommended size | Text limits Meta recommends |
|---|---|---|---|
| Facebook Feed image | 4:5 | 1440 x 1800 px | Primary text 50 to 150 characters, headline 27 characters |
| Instagram Reels video | 9:16 | 1440 x 2560 px | Primary text 44 characters |
Sources: Meta Ads Guide, Facebook Feed image and Meta Ads Guide, Instagram Reels video, accessed October 2026.
The Reels page adds a rule that sale ads often break. Meta says to consider leaving at least 14% of the top, 35% of the bottom and 6% of each side free from text and logos. The profile icon and the call to action cover those areas. A “40% off” line at the bottom of a vertical ad sits under the button.
Reels is no longer a side placement. From Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday 2025, Reels video ads were 28% of Instagram ad impressions, up from 20% the year before and equal to Feed, in the accounts one US agency manages (Tinuiti, BFCM 2025 recap, accessed October 2026). An ad made only as a square misses that share. How to rebuild one layout for each placement is in our guide to one ad in every platform size. For the still-image specs on Google, LinkedIn, TikTok and Pinterest, see image ads.
How many ad files does a Black Friday campaign need?
Count the files before you make one. The number is concepts, times sale phases, times sizes, times markets. A small campaign with 4 concepts, 3 phases and 2 sizes needs 24 files for one market. A second language makes 48.
This is illustrative arithmetic. Your numbers will differ.
| Step | Choice | Files |
|---|---|---|
| Concepts | 4 different ideas | 4 |
| Sale phases | Early offer, Black Friday, Cyber Monday | 4 x 3 = 12 |
| Sizes | 4:5 and 9:16 | 12 x 2 = 24 |
| Markets | English and German | 24 x 2 = 48 |
Two things keep the count low. First, do not make more ads than the budget can teach. Meta says: “When you create many ads and ad sets, the delivery system learns less about each ad and ad set” (Meta Business Help Center, learning phase page). Second, a translation is a new layout. German text runs longer than English, so the headline that fits in one market breaks in the next. That job is covered in localize ads without rebuilding.
The files also need one standard. The price, the end date, the logo and the product color must be the same in all 24. A wrong price in one size is the error a shopper screenshots.
What do Black Friday ads cost on Meta?
Ad prices on Meta usually rise in the sale week, and the rise is not the same for every advertiser. One tracker put the Cyber Monday 2024 CPM at $17.70, which was 138% above its 2024 average of $7.43. In another agency’s accounts, Meta CPM in the week before Thanksgiving 2025 was down 13% on the year before.
CPM is the cost of 1,000 impressions. Both figures come from one agency’s client accounts each. Treat them as examples, not as a market average.
- Gupta Media, 2024. Cyber Monday was the most expensive day of the year on Meta in its tracker, and Black Friday was second at $16.85. The weeks directly before and after were 12% to 27% cheaper (Gupta Media, social CPM tracker, accessed October 2026).
- Tinuiti, 2025. CPM fell 13% in the seven days before Thanksgiving, and still rose for 37% of the Meta advertisers it studied. Advantage+ shopping campaigns took 33% of Meta retail and ecommerce spend from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday, up from 26% (Tinuiti, same recap).
The practical point is the gap between weeks. Impressions cost less in early November than in the sale week. Ads that already run and have left learning by then meet the expensive days with stable delivery. How to read early results is in our guide to ad creative testing.
What should you check before the ads go live?
Check five things on every file: the price, the dates, the safe zones, the product and the landing page. A person does this check. It takes minutes for each ad, and it is the step that late campaigns skip.
- The price matches the store. The discount and the final price in the ad are the same as on the product page, in every market.
- The dates are right. The end date in the ad is the real end date. The Cyber Monday ad says Monday.
- The text is inside the safe zone. On 9:16 files, nothing important is in the top 14% or the bottom 35%.
- The product is the product. The color, the label and the shape match what ships. This matters most for images made or edited with AI.
- The link goes to the offer. The landing page shows the sale price and the product is in stock.
Then check the review status in Ads Manager a day after you submit. If Meta rejects an ad, you can edit it or request another review. Meta says it aims to decide a requested review within 48 hours (Meta Business Help Center, rejected ads, accessed October 2026). That is why the sale ads go in a week early.
This article is general information, not legal advice. Meta’s current pages are the rule.
Black Friday ads in DesignerBox
Anyone can make an AI picture. Making hundreds that still look like your brand is the hard part. DesignerBox is AI creative production for brands and agencies. You build a workflow once with your brand, your products and your rules, then run it on every product in the sale. The cost is shown before the run.
For this job, three parts matter. Winning-ad variations make new versions of an ad that already works for you. The ads resizer makes each size from one approved ad, and the ad localizer rebuilds an ad in another language and redraws the layout. The brand profile holds your logo, fonts and palette, and the workflow reads it on every run. The page for performance marketers shows the flow. Product photos and ads come from the same brand rules. The full workflow from the first product photo to the finished ad, in one subscription.
For a larger sale, batch runs one workflow over a whole sheet of products, one product per row. You keep or discard each result, and you re-run one row without changing the others.
The limits are plain. The offer, the choice of hero products and the final check on price and dates stay with you. Three critic steps score the results and best-of-N keeps the best one, and a person still looks at every ad. DesignerBox does not publish to an ad account and does not set up campaigns. You download the results, or send them with a webhook or an S3 step. There is a free plan, and it runs on sample products. Uploading your own photos and the commercial license start on the Pro plan. AI video, virtual try-on, upscaling, the image editor and the video editor start on the Premium plan. Every plan below Ultra is one seat. Plans and credits are on the pricing page.

FAQ
When should I start running Black Friday Facebook ads?
Start the first ads in early November and submit the sale ads by 20 November 2026. Meta reviews most ads within 24 hours, and an ad set usually needs about 50 results in a week to leave the learning phase. Adobe also expects discounts to begin in early November, so shoppers are active before the Friday.
When is Black Friday in 2026?
Black Friday is 27 November 2026. Thanksgiving is the day before, 26 November, and Cyber Monday is 30 November. Adobe calls the five days from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday “Cyber Week” and expects 47.5 billion dollars of US online sales in that period.
How many ads do I need for Black Friday?
Four to six different concepts is a workable set for a small store, each in a 4:5 and a 9:16 size. With three sale phases, 4 concepts make 24 files for one market. That number is illustrative. Meta advises against high ad volumes, because its system learns less about each ad.
What size should a Black Friday Facebook ad be?
Meta recommends a 4:5 image at 1440 by 1800 pixels for Facebook Feed, and 9:16 video at 1440 by 2560 pixels for Instagram Reels. On a Reels ad, keep text and logos out of the top 14%, the bottom 35% and 6% on each side.
Are Facebook ads more expensive on Black Friday?
Often, and not for everyone. One tracker measured a Cyber Monday 2024 CPM that was 138% above its yearly average. Another agency saw CPM fall 13% in the week before Thanksgiving 2025, while it still rose for 37% of the advertisers it studied. Both are single-agency data sets.
Can I change my ads during the sale weekend?
You can, and each change has a cost. Meta starts a new review when you edit a running ad. A new ad or a significant edit also starts the learning phase again. Changes to the bid, the budget or the schedule do not start a review, but Meta says frequent budget changes can restart learning.
Do Black Friday ads and Cyber Monday ads need different creative?
Yes, in one respect. The Cyber Monday ad says the sale ends that day, so it is a separate file. The product, the layout and the brand rules stay the same. Make it with the Black Friday ads and submit it before the weekend, so it is approved when Monday comes.
