TikTok Shop Affiliate Program: How It Works for Creators

The TikTok Shop affiliate program needs 1,000 followers and age 18 in the US. How commission, samples, the 30-day pilot and the AI content rules work.

TikTok Shop Affiliate Program: How It Works for Creators

The TikTok Shop affiliate program lets a creator earn commission on products sold through shoppable videos, LIVE streams and affiliate links. In the US you must be at least 18 years old and have at least 1,000 followers. The seller sets the commission rate for each product. Creators with fewer than 5,000 followers start in a 30-day pilot with posting limits.

The follower number is the first step. The parts that decide your first month come after it. You have a posting limit. A free sample comes with a 14-day deadline. Your commission arrives about two weeks after the order is delivered. TikTok Shop also has written rules on what AI may do in a video that sells a product.

This guide is for a creator who runs their content as a one-person business. Every program fact comes from TikTok’s own pages, read in October 2026.

Key Takeaways

  • Entry is 1,000 followers and age 18. You must also be based in the United States.

  • Under 5,000 followers, you start in a 30-day pilot. The standard pilot allows 3 product promotion videos a day and 3 shoppable LIVEs a week.

  • The seller sets your rate. Sellers can set commission from 1% to 80% for each product, and a target collaboration rate replaces the open rate.

  • A free sample has a deadline. You must create content within 14 days of receiving it.

  • The video must show the physical product. TikTok Shop says AI must not replace or fabricate the product display.

  • A commission and a free sample both need disclosure. The FTC says you cannot describe your experience with a product you have not tried.

What the TikTok Shop affiliate program is

The TikTok Shop affiliate program connects creators with sellers. You pick a product from the product marketplace, add its link to a video or a LIVE, and earn commission when a viewer buys. You hold no stock and ship nothing (business.tiktokshop.com, October 2026).

The checkout stays inside TikTok. That is the main difference from the link programs covered in Instagram affiliate marketing, where the link sends the shopper to a retailer’s site. Retailer programs such as the Walmart Creator program and the Amazon Influencer Program work that way too.

TikTok Shop is one tool in a creator’s stack. For the rest of the stack, CreatorFlow’s creator tools directory lists 190+ tools by job, from link-in-bio and email to scheduling and affiliate platforms. CreatorFlow is built by the same team as DesignerBox (creatorflow.so/creator-tools, October 2026).

TikTok Shop affiliate eligibility in the US

TikTok Shop lists the requirements on its Academy page for new creators, dated 30 June 2026 (seller-us.tiktok.com, October 2026). To become a TikTok Shop affiliate you must:

TikTok Shop affiliate access in the US by follower count: under 1,000 followers cannot join, 1,000 to 4,999 followers start in a 30-day pilot, and 5,000 followers after 30 days ends the pilot.
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Be based in the United States.
  • Have at least 1,000 followers.
  • Follow TikTok Shop’s policies, with no record of revoked e-commerce permissions.

TikTok’s creator page adds an account risk evaluation (business.tiktokshop.com, October 2026).

Two checks follow the application. Age confirmation must be complete within 2 months of registration. Identity verification asks for your full name, date of birth, address and a government ID. TikTok says creators who do not complete it may not be able to withdraw their commissions.

The 5,000 number you see in other guides is real, and it is a second threshold. It ends the pilot. It is not needed to join.

How to join the program

You apply inside the TikTok app, on your profile page. TikTok’s page gives two steps:

  1. Open TikTok Studio, the in-app creator toolkit.
  2. Under the Monetization tab, select TikTok Shop for Creator, then Join now.

After your first commission, TikTok asks you to create a commission account for withdrawals.

The 30-day pilot for new creators

If you have fewer than 5,000 followers, you begin a 30-day Creator Pilot Program. TikTok places you in one of two groups after its security and compliance checks.

Non-extended pilotExtended pilot
Product promotion videos3 a day3 a week
Shoppable LIVEs3 a week1 a week

In both groups you can pick products only from shops with a performance score of at least 95%.

To leave the pilot and post without the limit, you need at least 30 days in the program and at least 5,000 followers. TikTok also lists tasks that remove some limits early:

  • Keep at least 176 points in your Creator Health Rating.
  • Publish 6 e-commerce videos of at least 8 seconds, or hold 1 LIVE of at least 5 minutes, or get 10 orders in 30 days.
  • Pass the Pilot Program Quiz.

The FAQ on the same TikTok page says creators with fewer than 5,000 followers “can post up to 5 shoppable videos per week”. That differs from the table above. Your own limit is on the Pilot Program page in the app.

Open and target collaborations

A seller offers a product to creators in one of two ways (seller-us.tiktok.com, July 2026, read October 2026).

Open collaboration. The seller makes products visible to all TikTok Shop creators. The seller can turn on an approval mode. You find these products in the product marketplace.

Target collaboration. The seller invites specific creators to promote specific products.

A product can sit in both. TikTok tells sellers that “creators will only be paid one commission rate per product”, and that the target collaboration rate “will always supersede” the open rate. Read the rate before you accept an invitation.

How the seller sets your commission

You do not set the rate. The seller sets it, for one product, a group of products or the whole shop, in a range TikTok gives as 1% to 80%. You see the estimated commission on the product detail page when you pick the product.

TikTok’s commission page, dated 14 September 2026, gives the arithmetic (seller-us.tiktok.com, October 2026):

  • Estimated commission is the price the buyer paid, multiplied by the commission rate.
  • Partial refund: the refund amount comes off the price before the rate applies.
  • Full refund: the actual commission is 0.

You typically receive commission 15 days after the order delivery date. Commission is paid only after the seller’s order settles, so a seller with a longer settlement period pays later. An open dispute, refund or return request also holds the payment.

How samples work

A sample is how you get the real product in your hands before you film. TikTok Shop has two kinds (seller-us.tiktok.com, July 2026, read October 2026).

Free samples. You request one in the product marketplace, or a seller offers one with a target collaboration. TikTok says “sellers pay for the product, shipping and tax”. After the sample arrives, you are required to create content within 14 days.

Refundable samples. You buy the product in the product marketplace. You then have 90 days to meet the sample criteria. If you do not meet them, the sample becomes a regular purchase.

Plan the video before you request it, because the 14 days start on delivery. The structure in how to write a UGC script fits a shoppable video.

Shoppable video and LIVE rules

A shoppable video is a TikTok video with a product link. TikTok Shop’s Creator and Content Policy Guide, dated 14 August 2026, sets what the video must contain (seller-us.tiktok.com, October 2026).

For a video, TikTok asks for content recorded in a real-world environment, with camera movement, your face and the physical product. It asks for at least 3 seconds of dynamic content. A photo of the product with a request to buy it is listed as a violation.

For a LIVE, the rules are tighter:

  • No AI-generated voices, audio recordings or voiceover narration.
  • No stills, slideshows or scrolling images that cover more than 50% of the screen.
  • No screen recordings.

Claims must match the listing. TikTok says content is misleading when it “includes claims that are inconsistent with the product detail page” or “creates a false or inaccurate impression of the product” (seller-us.tiktok.com, June 2026, read October 2026).

The file specs for the seller’s own listing video are a different subject, covered in TikTok Shop product videos.

AI in a shoppable video: what TikTok Shop allows

TikTok Shop does not ban AI. Its page on AI-generated content, dated 2 September 2026, says content “will not be demoted or restricted solely because the AI-generated content setting is enabled” (seller-us.tiktok.com, October 2026). The policy guide draws the line at the product: “Product promotion videos must clearly and accurately display the physical product. AI must not be used to replace or fabricate product displays in a way that misleads users about the actual product.”

TaskTikTok Shop’s positionWhat to do
Scripts, titles and LIVE scriptsPermitted, if truthful and accurateWrite several hook lines, then film the best one yourself
Lighting, color, noise and background editsPermitted, if product information does not changeKeep the product’s real color and size
Virtual scenes or diagrams of product usePermitted, if the scene shows the real size, material and functionsLabel it, and keep it as a short insert
A flat product made into a fake 3D or rotating visualNot allowedFilm the real product turning in your hand
AI that changes size, color, material, quantity or performanceNot allowedShow what the buyer receives
An AI doctor, expert or other person endorsing the productNot allowedSpeak as yourself

Labels. TikTok Shop requires creators to disclose content that is “fully generated or significantly edited using AI”. You can add on-screen text or a watermark, or turn on the “AI-generated content” toggle when you post, which shows the label “Disclosed by creator as AI-generated”. Light adjustments, color grading, small crops and noise reduction do not need disclosure. A false label is also a violation.

So AI has a real job on TikTok Shop, and it sits around the product. Use it for hook variants, scripts, subtitles, cover images and a labeled scene insert. The product on screen is the sample you received. Paid ads follow different label rules, covered in TikTok video ads made with AI.

FTC disclosure for TikTok Shop affiliates

A commission is a material connection. So is a free sample. The FTC says its rules apply when an advertiser “pays you or gives you something of value” to mention a product (ftc.gov, October 2026). This is general information, not legal advice.

Three points from the FTC’s Endorsement Guides FAQ matter most to a TikTok Shop affiliate:

  • Experience must be real. “You can’t talk about your experience with a product if you haven’t tried it.” A video about a product you never held, or an AI image shown as your own use, fails this test and TikTok Shop’s product display rule together.
  • Say it in the video. The FTC says a disclosure in the TikTok text description is “very unlikely to be clear and conspicuous”. Say it aloud or place clear text on the video.
  • Use plain words. The FTC says “Paid link” next to an affiliate link should be adequate, and “commissionable link” is probably not.

Product content between shoots

DesignerBox is AI creative production for brands, creators and agencies. For a TikTok Shop affiliate it does not make the shoppable video. That video needs you and the real product. DesignerBox works on the content around it.

You post the same products on other surfaces too: a cover image, an Instagram post, a Pinterest pin, a roundup. Those accept a product still. You add one product photo, and a workflow returns the set. You set your look once, and the workflow reads it on every run. Anyone can make an AI picture. Making hundreds that still look like your brand is the hard part.

The image editor makes one edit after another, and the picture keeps its detail and resolution. The video editor is a real timeline, with several tracks, transitions, animated text and audio, so you can cut your own filmed footage there. The full workflow from the first product photo to the finished ad, in one subscription. The social creatives page shows the formats.

The cost is shown before the run. There is a free plan, and it runs on sample products. Uploading your own photos and the commercial license start on the Pro plan. AI video, virtual try-on, upscaling, the image editor and the video editor start on the Premium plan. Plans and credits are on the pricing page.

A creator who posts a few times a month may not need it. It fits a creator with new products every week. The stills side of the work is covered in UGC-style product photography, and clips for other link programs in shoppable video for creators.

FAQ

How many followers do you need for the TikTok Shop affiliate program?

At least 1,000 followers in the US. TikTok Shop also requires you to be at least 18 years old and based in the United States. Under 5,000 followers you start in a 30-day pilot.

How much commission do TikTok Shop affiliates earn?

The seller sets the rate for each product. TikTok gives the range a seller can set as 1% to 80%. The estimated commission is on the product detail page.

When does TikTok Shop pay commission?

TikTok says you typically receive commission 15 days after the order delivery date. Payment waits until the seller’s order settles, and until any dispute, refund or return request is resolved.

Can I use AI in a TikTok Shop video?

Yes, with limits. TikTok Shop permits AI for scripts, titles, translation and edits to light and background. It requires a label on content that is fully generated or significantly edited with AI. AI must not replace the physical product or change its size, color or performance.

Do I need to disclose a TikTok Shop commission?

The FTC treats a commission and a free product as connections that need a clear disclosure. It says a disclosure in the TikTok text description is very unlikely to be clear enough, so say it in the video. This is not legal advice.
