The main Veo alternatives are Seedance 2.0 from ByteDance, Kling 3.0 and Kling 2.6 from Kuaishou, Runway Gen-4.5, and Google’s own Gemini Omni Flash. Veo 3.1 Fast and Veo 3.1 Lite are cheaper tiers of the same Veo model. Compare them on three things: price per second, maximum clip length and native audio. Then pick a model for each shot.
Veo 3.1 is not one price, and its alternatives are not one price either. Google lists Veo 3.1 at $0.60 a second at 4K and Veo 3.1 Lite at $0.05 a second at 720p, a 12x spread inside one model family (ai.google.dev, September 2026). The alternatives run from Kling 2.6 at $0.042 a second without audio to Seedance 2.0 at $0.78 a second at 4K. Pick per shot, and price the shot before you make it.
You have four product clips to ship by Friday. You price the first one on the most expensive setting you can find, and you start to search. The search is a budget reaction, so the answer that helps is arithmetic. A list of ten logos does not help.
This article compares Veo 3.1 with seven alternatives on the three things that decide a shot: price per second, maximum clip length, and whether audio comes out of the same generation. Every figure comes from the vendor’s own documentation, checked in September 2026.
Key Takeaways
- The cheapest Veo alternative is still Veo. Veo 3.1 Lite lists $0.05 a second at 720p with audio, against $0.40 for Veo 3.1, so an 8-second clip is $0.40 against $3.20 (ai.google.dev, September 2026).
- Google now names a different default. Its Gemini API docs call Gemini Omni Flash the default video model, and keep Veo 3.1 for scene extension and last-frame control (ai.google.dev, September 2026). Google lists 22 October 2026 as the earliest shutdown date for the Veo 3.1 preview models in the Gemini API (ai.google.dev, October 2026).
- Kling 2.6 has the lowest listed rate here, at $0.042 a second at 720p without audio. Its audio needs 1080p, at $0.14 a second (kling.ai, September 2026).
- One Veo 3.1 generation is 8 seconds at most. Seedance 2.0 and Kling 3.0 reach 15 seconds, and Kling 2.6 makes 5 or 10 second clips only. If the shot needs one continuous take over 8 seconds, that alone decides the model.
- Sora 2 Pro is not a pick. OpenAI removed Sora 2 and Sora 2 Pro from its API on 24 September 2026 (OpenAI API deprecations, accessed September 2026).
Why people look for Veo alternatives
People look for Veo alternatives for three reasons, and none of them is about quality. The first is cost per clip at 1080p and 4K. The second is the 8-second ceiling on a single generation. The third is access. In Google’s consumer plans, Google AI Pro includes only a limited trial of Veo 3.1 Lite, and Google AI Ultra lists Veo 3.1. Google also says Gemini Omni will replace Veo in the Gemini app (gemini.google, September 2026). Developers pay per second through the Gemini API instead.
Veo 3.1 is a strong model with native audio, 4K output and documented limits. It also has a date now. Google lists 22 October 2026 as the earliest shutdown date for the Veo 3.1 preview models in the Gemini API, and names Gemini Omni Flash as the replacement (Gemini API deprecations, October 2026). On Google Cloud, the generally available Veo 3.1 models list a retirement date of 17 November 2026 or later. A pipeline on the Gemini API preview models needs a plan for that date.
The other reason the search exists is that one model priced at one tier is a poor fit for a shot list where some shots are hero frames and most are filler.
What Veo 3.1 costs per second
Google publishes three Veo 3.1 tiers, and the spread between them is larger than the gap between Veo and most other models. Standard runs $0.40 a second at 720p and 1080p and $0.60 at 4K. Fast runs $0.10 at 720p, $0.12 at 1080p and $0.30 at 4K. Lite runs $0.05 at 720p and $0.08 at 1080p. Audio is included at every tier.
That is a 12x range from Lite at 720p to Standard at 4K, for the same model family (ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/pricing, September 2026). A team that priced Veo once at Standard and concluded it was expensive has priced one twelfth of the picture.
| Veo 3.1 tier | 720p | 1080p | 4K |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | $0.40/sec | $0.40/sec | $0.60/sec |
| Fast | $0.10/sec | $0.12/sec | $0.30/sec |
| Lite | $0.05/sec | $0.08/sec | not listed |
Source: Gemini API pricing, accessed September 2026. Prices are per second of generated video, audio included.
Google’s newer model sits in the same range. Gemini Omni Flash generates 3 to 10 second clips from 360p up to 4K, at 24 fps. It is billed by output tokens, which works out to about $0.10 a second at 720p (ai.google.dev, September 2026).
What one 8-second clip costs on each model
The table below prices the same unit on each model: one 8-second clip, at the vendor’s own API list price. Where a model offers more than one resolution, the table shows the useful ones.
| Model and setting | Vendor list rate | One 8-second clip |
|---|---|---|
| Veo 3.1 Lite, 720p, audio | $0.05/sec | $0.40 |
| Veo 3.1 Lite, 1080p, audio | $0.08/sec | $0.64 |
| Kling 3.0, by resolution and audio | $0.084 to $0.168/sec | $0.67 to $1.34 |
| Veo 3.1 Fast, 720p, audio | $0.10/sec | $0.80 |
| Gemini Omni Flash, 720p | about $0.10/sec | about $0.81 |
| Runway Gen-4.5, 720p, no audio | $0.12/sec | $0.96 |
| Seedance 2.0, 720p, audio | $0.15/sec | $1.20 |
| Seedance 2.0, 1080p, audio | $0.37/sec | $2.96 |
| Veo 3.1, 720p or 1080p, audio | $0.40/sec | $3.20 |
| Veo 3.1, 4K, audio | $0.60/sec | $4.80 |
| Seedance 2.0, 4K, audio | $0.78/sec | $6.24 |
Sources: Gemini API pricing, Kling API pricing, Runway API pricing, BytePlus ModelArk pricing. All checked September 2026. BytePlus prints its Seedance rates as estimates and bills per million tokens. Kling 2.6 is not in the table because it makes 5 or 10 second clips only: a 10-second clip is $0.42 at 720p without audio and $1.40 at 1080p with audio.
The spread from top to bottom is about 16x for the same eight seconds. This spread is the case for choosing per shot instead of picking a favorite. Nine clips cost $3.60 if every shot runs on Veo 3.1 Lite at 720p, and $28.80 if every shot runs on Veo 3.1. Neither is the right answer. Eight filler shots on Lite plus one hero shot on Veo 3.1 comes to $6.40. We break the wider campaign arithmetic down in our guide to what AI video generation costs.
Veo alternatives compared by clip length and audio
Clip length, native audio and aspect ratio rule a Veo alternative in or out before its price matters. The table below compares each model on those specs, from each vendor’s own documentation.
| Model | Provider | Max clip in one generation | Native audio | Resolutions | Aspect ratios |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Veo 3.1 | 8 sec | Yes, always on | 720p, 1080p, 4K | 16:9, 9:16 | |
| Veo 3.1 Fast | 8 sec | Yes, always on | 720p, 1080p, 4K (Gemini API) | 16:9, 9:16 | |
| Veo 3.1 Lite | 8 sec | Yes, always on | 720p, 1080p | 16:9, 9:16 | |
| Gemini Omni Flash | 10 sec | Yes | 360p to 4K (1080p and 4K by upscaling) | 16:9, 9:16 | |
| Seedance 2.0 | ByteDance | 15 sec | Yes, on by default | 480p, 720p, 1080p, 4K | 6 plus adaptive, including 21:9 and 1:1 |
| Kling 3.0 | Kuaishou | 15 sec | Yes | 720p, 1080p, 4K | See Kling’s API docs |
| Kling 2.6 | Kuaishou | 10 sec (5 or 10 only) | Yes, at 1080p only | 720p, 1080p | 16:9, 9:16, 1:1 for text-to-video |
| Runway Gen-4.5 | Runway | 10 sec | Not documented as shipped | 720p | 6 for image-to-video, including 21:9 and 1:1 |

Two rows decide most briefs. Runway Gen-4.5 has no documented audio output, so any shot that needs dialogue or a synced effect means a second pass. Runway announced native audio for Gen-4.5 on 11 December 2025 (runway.com, October 2026), but its current spec table and API schema do not list audio output. And one Veo 3.1 generation is 8 seconds at most, which matters the moment a shot has to hold longer than that in one take. In the Gemini API, extension adds 7 seconds at a time, up to 148 seconds, at 720p only. If the tool rather than the model is what you are replacing, Runway alternatives sorts the options by job. Two platforms that resell many of the same models are compared in OpenArt vs Higgsfield, and one of them is covered alone in our Higgsfield AI review.
Kling 2.6 was the first Kling model to generate audio and video in a single pass, released 3 December 2025 (prnewswire.com, September 2026). Kuaishou announced Kling 3.0 on 5 February 2026 with 3 to 15 second clips and 1 to 6 shots per clip, and added native 4K on 23 April 2026 (kling.ai, September 2026). Seedance 2.0 accepts the widest reference input of the models here: up to 9 image references, 3 video references and 3 audio references in one generation, which is the lever that matters most for keeping a character consistent across shots. If Seedance is the model you are pricing against rather than Veo, the same models are compared from that angle in Seedance alternatives.
Sora 2 Pro sat in comparisons like this one until recently. Until its API removal, it generated clips of up to 20 seconds at up to 1080p with synced audio (OpenAI video generation guide, accessed September 2026). OpenAI has not named a replacement video model, so plan new work on a model that stays. If your pipeline used Sora, read Sora alternatives by job. It names a replacement for each job and lists the steps to move the pipeline. Hailuo AI alternatives compares the models outside this list, including MiniMax H3 and Wan 3.0.
Which model to use for which shot
Work in this order: length, then audio, then ratio, then cost.
- Dialogue or synced sound effects. Veo 3.1, Seedance 2.0, Kling 3.0, or Kling 2.6 at 1080p. Adding audio in a second pass costs time as well as money.
- One continuous take over 8 seconds. Seedance 2.0 or Kling 3.0, both up to 15 seconds. Kling 2.6 and Runway Gen-4.5 stop at 10, and one Veo 3.1 generation stops at 8.
- Volume, drafts and cutaways. Veo 3.1 Lite at $0.05 a second with audio, or Kling 2.6 at $0.042 a second without it.
- The hero shot at 4K. Veo 3.1 at $0.60 a second, Veo 3.1 Fast at $0.30 in the Gemini API, Seedance 2.0 at $0.78, or Kling 3.0.
- Cinematic ultrawide. Seedance 2.0 and Runway Gen-4.5 (image-to-video) both offer 21:9.
- Square for feed placements. Kling 2.6, Seedance 2.0 and Runway Gen-4.5 (image-to-video) all offer 1:1.
On a real shot list you eliminate most models per shot, and then pay whatever the survivor costs. The same per-shot rule runs through the six rules for AI product video. To check which model follows your prompt, see the best AI video model test.
Cost per shot list
A monthly plan floor tells you little. It prices access to a tool, and the number you need is the cost of each clip. A low-cost plan that spends a large share of its allowance on one 10-second clip can cost more per clip than a dearer plan.
The number that decides a month is the shot list, and it is computable in advance. Twelve product clips, three of them heroes: nine 8-second clips on Veo 3.1 Lite at 720p and three on Veo 3.1 at 1080p come to $13.20 at Google’s API list prices. That sum exists before anything is made, which is the difference between planning a campaign and discovering it.
In DesignerBox, the same shot list runs as a workflow, with a model set for each shot. An 8-second clip costs 40 to 560 credits, depending on the model. You see the cost before you press Run. If a shot is expensive, you decide before you spend any credits.
Uploading your own photos and the commercial license start on the Pro plan. AI video, virtual try-on, upscaling, the image editor and the video editor start on the Premium plan. An annual plan grants the same monthly allocation, reset each month. Plans and credits are on the pricing page.
The other half of the bill is the edit. A model makes clips. The video editor is a real timeline, with several tracks, transitions, animated text and audio. It turns twelve clips into one ad. The models, the video editor, your brand record and the Assets library sit in one place. The full workflow from the first product photo to the finished ad, in one subscription.
How to pick a model on a budget
Draft on the low-cost model, finish on the expensive one. An 8-second Veo 3.1 Lite clip at 720p is $0.40 at Google’s list price, and it works as a test frame. Veo 3.1 at $3.20 is a delivery. Four drafts on Veo 3.1 before you know the framing works cost $12.80, and the first three were never going to ship. Where the minutes and the re-runs go is covered in how to make AI videos fast.
Lock the inputs before you spend. Reference images, a first frame and a stated camera move narrow the result more than adjectives do. That matters most on the models with the widest reference input, which is where Seedance 2.0 earns its rate.
Then save the setup, so you do not build it again for the next product. A shot that took many tries is worth saving as a workflow, because the next drop is the same job with different products in it. A saved workflow runs the same way on the next product. You set the brand once, and the workflow reads it on every run. The shot list then keeps one look, whichever model runs each step. If getting the same shot twice matters more to you than the lowest cost, we ranked six models on repeatability.
If most of your video budget goes to a media subscription, the question is a different one. We work through it in Artlist alternatives compared by job. If your budget is zero right now, what free AI video tiers allow covers the limits of free tiers, including watermarks and commercial-use terms. The DesignerBox free plan cannot make video.

FAQ
Is there a free alternative to Veo?
Google’s consumer plans give limited Veo access: Google AI Pro includes a limited trial of Veo 3.1 Lite, and Google AI Ultra lists Veo 3.1 (gemini.google, September 2026). Developers pay per second through the Gemini API. Google says Gemini Omni will replace Veo in the Gemini app (gemini.google, September 2026). Free tiers from other providers often add watermarks or limit commercial use, so check each provider’s own terms. DesignerBox has a free plan, and it cannot make video. AI video starts on the Premium plan.
What is the cheapest Veo alternative?
At Google’s list prices, Veo 3.1 Lite at $0.05 a second at 720p, with audio, is the lowest Veo rate (ai.google.dev, September 2026). Google lists 22 October 2026 as the earliest shutdown date for the Veo 3.1 preview models in the Gemini API, Lite included (ai.google.dev, October 2026). Among the other models compared, Kling 2.6 lists $0.042 a second at 720p without audio (kling.ai, September 2026).
What does one 8-second clip cost?
At API list prices, from $0.40 on Veo 3.1 Lite at 720p to $4.80 on Veo 3.1 at 4K and $6.24 on Seedance 2.0 at 4K (ai.google.dev and docs.byteplus.com, September 2026). In DesignerBox, an 8-second clip costs 40 to 560 credits, depending on the model. The cost of the run is shown before you press Run.
Which Veo alternative makes the longest clips?
In one generation, Seedance 2.0 and Kling 3.0 reach 15 seconds. Kling 2.6 and Runway Gen-4.5 reach 10, and Veo 3.1 caps at 8. In the Gemini API, Veo 3.1 extension adds 7 seconds at a time, up to 148 seconds at 720p. Sora 2 Pro reached 20 seconds, but OpenAI removed Sora 2 and Sora 2 Pro from its API on 24 September 2026 (developers.openai.com, accessed September 2026).
Which Veo alternatives have native audio?
Veo 3.1, Veo 3.1 Fast, Veo 3.1 Lite, Seedance 2.0, Kling 3.0 and Kling 2.6 generate audio with the picture, and Kling 2.6 needs 1080p for it. Runway Gen-4.5 has no documented audio output, so a clip that needs dialogue or synced effects requires a separate audio pass.
What is the best Veo alternative for product ads?
For product work, reference input usually decides more than raw quality, because the result has to show your actual product. Seedance 2.0 accepts up to 9 image, 3 video and 3 audio references in one generation, the widest of the models compared.
Can I switch models between shots in one campaign?
Yes, and it is usually the lowest-cost way to run a shot list. In DesignerBox, each shot is a step in a workflow. You pick the model for each step from the model list when you build the workflow, and every run after that uses it. A template comes with its model already picked.
